Our Board
~Tom Johnson, President
“My appreciation for libraries began years ago while in college where I would often go into the ‘stacks’ to study. It was a treasure trove of tall shelves filled with books and literally stacks of old London times newspapers dating back 150 years. I believe that every community is enriched immeasurably by having a local library that offers so much more than books and newspapers. Though libraries are free to patrons, they cost money to stay open and many counties in California no longer support them. Hopefully the Dunsmuir library will continue to keep operating through the continuing generous support of our community.”

"Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities." - R David Lankes
“The library has been a favorite place of mine since childhood - a place to find most any information you could possibly want, local events and services, creative inspiration and of course, the magic of reading. My child also spent their childhood growing up with frequent library visits and it is a treasured asset to our communities, more so now than ever. It is a passion of mine to help bridge the gap between needs in our community and knowledge and access to what is available locally at our libraries. I became interested in becoming a board member after I learned our local library was in danger of closing due to funding. I am eager to help be a part of making the Dunsmuir Library a continued local hub for culture, knowledge, socialization outside of commerce, and a place to spend time that does not require anything beyond a library card to access.”

“Volunteer hours are a way of giving back. I grew up in poor underserved neighborhoods. For me, the library was a sanctuary, a safe place.”

“I support our Dunsmuir Library, and libraries in general, because they are places where everyone, rich or poor, is welcomed. And in today's fragmented society, libraries help bring people and communities together by providing important services and offering entertaining and informative public events.”
