Library Open House May 10
Your library is planning an afternoon of fun activities at its Open House on Satur-day May 10 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. There will be live music, kids’ activities, talks, and raffle prize drawings.
Town Historian Ron McCloud will talk about the history of the downtown Belnap Fountain, and Angel Gomez will discuss the little-known Okwanuchu Native American tribe that lived near Dunsmuir before the Gold Rush.
There will also be a book and bake sale. Raffle prizes include a fishing rod, some beautiful quilts, and an Owl & The Pussycat Scone & Tea Basket. Tickets, $1 each or 6 for $5, can be purchased at the library and at Dunsmuir Hardware. You need not be present to win.
What’s Happening At Your Library
We are continuing to hold a Games and Movie Day on the first Saturday of every month. After the closure of The Wheelhouse restaurant, a selection of its board games was generously donated to refresh our collection.
Voices in the Canyon will be presenting local author Will Newman, who will be reading from his newest book, "Breaking Free: An Abused Teen's Search for Hope” at 2 p.m. Saturday May 24, with a Q & A.
Our Book Club will be discussing "In the Midst of Winter" by Isabel Allende on May 28 at 4 p.m. here in the library.
First 5 Playgroup and Storytime meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. here in the Library.
The library is always available for tutoring help and help with job searches.

Keeping The Doors Open
As we go to press we are waiting to learn what the city’s financial contribution will be to the library for the next fiscal year beginning July 1.
With an annual budget of nearly $50,000 we need a substantial contribution from the city, since we can’t make up that amount just with donations and book sales.
We are asking for $32,000 from the city and feel that is a reasonable request for a valuable community resource.
In the meantime, to get us through the next few months, we will be counting on donations from our library supporters. Visit our donation page to help the library.
Any support you can provide is greatly appreciated.
